Jakarta, JUL 25 2018 – Two outstanding Indonesian short films, ‘Errorist Of Seasons’ and ‘The Day The Voices Raised’, were honoured at the second annual Viddsee Juree Awards Indonesia, an initiative that celebrates and supports filmmaker communities in Asia.

The Gold winner is Rein Maychaelson for ‘Errorist of Seasons’, a drama about a father who wagers his fortunes on a boat-for-hire business. Rein is no stranger to Juree, having participated in the 2016 edition of the Viddsee Juree Awards in Indonesia, and had received Special Mention for ‘Udin Telekomsel’.

“I feel the urgency to tell stories about how unique this country is: weird, yet vibrant. Presenting our country as-is, is an interesting and problematic creative challenge. It excites me to know that there’s a virtual space for these idiosyncrasies, like on Viddsee’s platform. Winning this award encourages me to make more films!” said Rein.

Trade union activist Dian Septi Trisnanti was named the Silver winner for ‘The Day The Voices Raised’, a documentary about how female factory workers overcame sexual harassment at an industrial garment district in Jakarta. In exception of the sound designer, everyone on Dian’s production team were first-time filmmakers.

She said: “We are overjoyed to be shortlisted and to win the second prize at Viddsee Juree. This was an opportunity to learn and for us to produce more work. For my fellow female workers, this is a huge boost for our struggle!”

Filmmaker M Reza Fahriyansyah received a Special Mention for ‘Souvenirs’, a drama about a mother burdened by the custom of obligatory gift-giving. Reza commented: “My gratitude to those who empathise with my story. This recognition will spur me on to produce more films!”

Gold and Silver winners were awarded film production grants from Viddsee worth IDR40 million and IDR20 million respectively, along with audio equipment provided by RØDE Microphones. The Gold winner also won a five-day Global Film & TV Program in Los Angeles sponsored by the Motion Picture Association (MPA).

Viddsee Juree Awards Indonesia call for submissions began in March, and was supported through online campaigns and on-ground roadshows across Bandung, Solo, Yogyakarta, Semarang and Denpasar. A two-week online voting period was also held on Viddsee.com for the Audience Choice Award, which went to the animation ‘Tentickles!’ by Michael Gavin.
