Viddsee to discover new talents by celebrating Asian storytelling on a global stage
Open to Asia with new vertical storytelling category; opportunity to be part of Scene City Accelerator Program through Viddsee Labs
SINGAPORE, 15 September 2022 - Viddsee, a storyteller platform for short premium content, announced the launch of the first-ever Juree Awards Asia for its seventh edition. This expansion is to celebrate the power of storytelling by discovering fresh talents, along with launching and developing the careers of Asian storytellers on a global stage. Storytellers, filmmakers, creatives and producers may submit short films concluded from 1 January 2020 onwards.
This year’s Juree will include a new category, the Vertical Storytelling Award, to present vertical videos as an emerging style of storytelling. Its main prize, the Grand Prize Award, consists of a cash grant and Intellectual Property (IP) development opportunity with Viddsee Labs. Viewers may cast votes for favourite shortlisted films for the Audience Choice Awards.
Viddsee is also launching Scene City Accelerator Asia 2023 to drive talent and IP growth, while providing a platform for filmmakers to upskill and develop stories. An Accelerator programme helps fuel the regional storytelling community and provide an opportunity for modern Asian stories to be shared with bigger audiences.
Finalists of Juree Asia will be offered to join the Accelerator programme, and mentored through Viddsee Labs to develop a new short film under Scene City Asia. The best concepts will be selected and provided with mentoring and funding support for filmmakers. Viddsee will also help market the films, potentially creating more growth for the diversity in Asian storytelling.
"We're excited for the expansion of Juree across Asia, providing more opportunities for storytellers to present local to bigger audiences. Juree supports our long-term goal of building a strong-storyteller ecosystem in Asia. The accelerator program through Viddsee Labs will help in the growth of IP-development, alongside launching careers of Asian storytellers on an international scale." said Derek Tan, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer of Viddsee.
Since its launch in 2017, Scene City - a Viddsee Originals series, is the world’s longest-running short film anthology that provides a keyhole into rich and layered narratives of life. Viddsee has worked with nearly 40 local directors and writers to champion stories that reflect modern Asian society; where it will be commemorating its 50th Scene City film this year.
